Larry Pierson has

Mr. Pierson has over years of experience in engineering geology, and is a nationally recognized expert in the field of rock mechanics with a specialty in transportation projects. Twenty-two years of his experience were earned at the Oregon Department of Transportation where he served as Chief Engineering Geologist. He was responsible for rock slope and rockfall mitigation designs, foundation evaluations for structures on rock, and managing rockfall research projects. He was also responsible for the investigation and correction of numerous system-critical landslides and other geologic hazards, statewide. He developed standard specifications, special provisions and inspection standards for blasting, rock bolting, shotcreting, and rock slope scaling. He developed the Rockfall Hazard Rating System (RHRS) that is used by many state Department of Transportation Offices. More recently, as Principal Researcher, Mr. Pierson completed a five-year long, Central Federal Lands Highway Division research effort that resulted in a national guideline for rock fallout area design. With Landslide Technology Mr. Pierson has served as Project Manager on geotechnical projects with numerous State DOTs and FHWA, and has provided expert witness services on rockfall litigation.
