Classroom and field training

Mr. Lawrence Pierson, Principal Researcher for development of the Rockfall Hazard Rating System (RHRS), provided classroom and field training to Utah Department of Transportation Management, Design, Maintenance and Research personnel. This system provides Federal, State, and Municipal agencies, as well as private landowners, an objective method of prioritizing rockfall hazards and mitigation costs for transportation systems or critical infrastructure such as pipelines or canals. Mr. Pierson served on UDOT's Technical Advisory Committee and provided leadership and review of: modifications of the RHRS to meet Department conditions and needs, development of the RHRS GIS-based database, and the Preliminary and Detailed Ratings. Over 2000 slopes were evaluated with roughly 1100 entered into the database.
